Monique Zhang is the designer of the well-known San Francisco fashion establishment, Cicada. Born and educated in Taiwan, Zhang moved to America at age 21 to work in the fashion industry, and launched Cicada in 1998. She honed her craft under styling legend Sandra Sakata and named her business after Sakata, taking the humble Cicada as the symbol of rebirth and "the wisdom of emerging elegance." Zhang's designs combine Sakata's tradition of "exotic glamour" with the uniqueness of the individual personality. Inspired by ancient cultures and by her experience with textiles from around the world, Zhang's one-of-a-kind pieces reflect the inner being of the wearer for whom they are designed.

With the Cotton/LYCRA® business serving as a foundation in the 80's, I have since been continuing to work with stretch fabrications, both domestic and from Europe. Firmly believing in the "Stylish yet Comfortable" motto, my current focus is on collecting prints from Europe and printing upon nylon mesh fabric. This creates a "second skin" aspect to the Weston Wear look. Each season we offer a group of new prints that are available in certain styles, creating a multitude of possible combinations of solid and print mix. In addition, we offer stretch woven bottom weight fabrics as well as various sweater knits with a different twist.
